Mild laxative in chronic constipation

Dose:
Powder, seeds

Powder 2 or more tablespoons, variable per day.
GEM 5 to 10g of the seeds, 3 to 4 times daily.
Sufficient fluids must be taken with the preparation. 150mls water to 5g preparation.
AC Capsules of powdered husk 200mg capsule, 3 times daily.
Cold maceration 20g seeds in 200mls water, taken at night.
ESCOP 3.5g 1 to 3 x daily. Children 6 - 12tyars 1/2 dose.
Double dose for irritable bowel

Contraindications
1) Do not use this herb where there is esophageal stenosis, abnormal intestinal narrowing or bowel obstruction, due to bulk forming effect which may cause or further complicate impaction.
2) In cases of insulin controlled diabetes dosage may require alteration with use of this herb.
3) There may be reduced absorption of all oral drugs when combined with this herb.
4) There have been rare cases of allergic reactions known with this herb.
