Volatile oil , 1.5-3% containing limonene, phthalides and beta-selinene
Coumarins
Furanocoumarins including bergapten
Flavonoids including apiin
Medicinal Use:
Nerve stimulant
Antirheumatic
Diuretic
Carminative
Sedative
Antiseptic
Lowers blood pressure
Dose:
Tincture, Powder, Ointment
S.F. Tincture 1tsp (5ml) daily.
Seed in food.
A.C. Tincture 3mls 3 times daily.
Infusion 1 cup daily.
D.H. Tincture 2 to 4mls 3 times daily.
Infusion 1 to 2 teaspoons crushed seed to cup of water 3 times daily.
GEM -
externally applied locally not longer than 2 days with 14 day break.
A.C. Powder pinch to 25mls lemon juice diluted with water as gargle.
Ointment apply on unbroken skin only.

Contraindications

1) Avoid non organic seeds as they are usually dressed with fungicid
2) Large amounts of this herb during pregnancy have arbortifacient and emmenagogue effects.
3) Where there is acute kidney inflammation this herb may cause irritation caused by excretion of monoterpene and phthalide volatile oils in the urine.
4) Due to the furanocoumarins within this herb, the use of ultraviolet light or solarium therapy should be avoided as this may result in phototoxicity. E
