Meridians:
Stomach, liver, intestine, kidneys, lungs.
Active Constituents
Lignans
Sesquiterpene lactones including cnicin
Volatile oil
Polyacetylenes
Flavonoids
Triterpenes
Phytosterols
Tannins
Medicinal Use:
Stimulates milk production in nursing mothers
Stimulates digestive juices and maintains stomach acid balance
Diuretic
Diaphoretic
Expectorant
Restores nerves
Promotes tissue repair
Tumours
Cancer
Bitter astringent
Decongesting
Dose:
Internally as tea or tincture
Externally as wash or compress
S.F.
Tincture 5 to 10mls, 3 times daily.
GEM 1:5 (g/ml) 7.5 to 10ml 3 times daily.
D.H. Tincture 1-2ml, 3 times daily.
Infusion 1 teaspoon dried herb to cup of water, 3 times daily.

Contraindications

1) This herb may cause an allergic reaction. E
2) Avoid use of this herb where there is acute kidney inflammation.
3) Avoid use of this herb where there is high gastric acidity.
4) Large doses of this herb may cause vomiting and nosebleeds.
5) Do not use this herb during pregnancydue to its uterine stimulant properties.
