Spicy, sweet, hot or warming

Spleen, kidney, liver, bladder
Active Constituents
Volatile oil (1.5%) including cinnamic aldehyde, eugenol and benzaldehyde.
Tannins (2%)
Mucilage
Medical Use:
Counter-irritant
Carminative
Antispasmodic
Astringent
Anti-diabetic
Loss of appetite
Dose:
Tincture, essential oil, infusion.

Tincture 2.5mls(1/2 tsp) to 5ml (1 tsp) daily.

G.E.M. Tincture 1:5 (g/ml) 3.3 to 6.7mls 3 times daily.
Essential oil 0.05 to 0.2ml daily.
A.C. Tincture 20 drops with water 4 times daily.
Infusion 0.5 cup 2 to 3 times daily.
Powder 0.25 teaspoon 2 to 3 times daily in water.
Essential oil dab on for wasp stings as required.

Contraindications

1) Avoid during pregnancy due to this herb's emmenagogue effects.
E Safe in cooking.
2) Avoid with nursing mothers as this herb may cause allergic hypersensitivity due to its cinnamein content. E.
3) Avoid with stomach and intestinal ulcers due to its stomachic effect. E.
4) Prolonged use of this herb may cause tissue irritation due to potential toxicity.
5) Gastro-intestinal irritation may result where large amounts of the pure essential oil are ingested, causing violent vomiting and possible kidney irritation.

This herb is harmless when used in low doses as with cooking and teas.
