Progesterone levels begin to fall in the pre-menopause phase resulting in oestrogen dominance. This is the most significant issue for pre-menopausal women which can cause a myriad of uncomfortable symptoms often ten times more severe than PMS. Periods can be intermittent and unpredictable during the pre-menopause phase, but nevertheless occurring.

Menopause:
During the menopause hot flushes may occur in tandem with the menstrual cycle (however random or none at all).

Postmenopause:
During post-menopause there is a slow, gradual decline in the hormone levels. If the adrenal glands are healthy, they will take over a low rate of oestrogen and progesterone production. If the adrenals are exhausted, this exacerbates a different set of changes.
