Introduction:
This is an acute contagious disease cause by the virus Paramyxovirus. Those infected need to be kept in isolation and particularly away from men whose testes can be affected (orchites). Toxic mucus accumulation in the body will contribute into the likelihood of 'catching' it. It takes two or three weeks to incubate and is usually caught from other children and means that your child's immune system and glandular system is a little low or clogged. The infectious time is one day before the glands swell until three days after they have gone down; they can be swollen for three to seven days. The face will look swollen due to the fact that the glands around the tonsils and the salivary glands are highly inflamed, causing difficulty in swallowing: this is probably the most uncomfortable symptom. Those vaccinated for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) are unlikely to contract the disease. Nutritional Advice:
Cold liquid foods will be vital.
Organic vegetable juices, such as carrot, would be best at this stage, also frequent gargling is helpful
Drink plenty of water, followed by lemon juice and water when the throat pain is over, fresh vegetable and fruit juices during the swollen phase and then graduate to salads, raw foods, rice and lots of garlic.

Natural Healing: Bed rest and plenty of fluids is key.
A neck oil applied over the affected glands can be comforting: try a mixture of 4mls lavender, 2mls eucalyptus and 2mls tea tree in 250mls base oil (olive oil is fine); apply warmed and hold over the glands with a muslin cloth.

Herb Quality:
A large proportion of our herbs are grown in English soils, harvested using bio-chemistry analysis and many but not always, processed fresh, which heightens their remedial properties. The majority are grown organically and or sustainably wild-crafted. All manufacturing is carried out using licensed good manufacturing practice.
