Hepatitis

Introduction:

This is an inflammation of the liver, which is usually caused by exposure to an infectious virus Hepatitis A, B or C, a toxin or drug, all with initial underlying low health status. The illness may be mild or life threatening.

Type A is the most common and can be contracted orally via sewage, swimming pools, shellfish etc., B is contracted via blood or sexually contact, and C is also transmitted by blood and skin.

During the acute infectious stage there is fever, malaise and often migraines. If the disease lasts more than six months, it becomes officially chronic and liver damage can result, leading to cirrhosis and jaundice or even cancer.

Hepatitis needs individual treatment depending on the type and all types will need professional supervision.

However, all types will respond to the following treatments:

Dandelion

Milk Thistle

Nutritional Advice:

Bile needs to be decongested in this situation and the 'fire' and 'heat' of the problem purged and cooled. Many herbs common to the kitchen and garden will help this: turmeric root, rosemary, cinnamon, olive oil, olives, lemon and garlic.

For more on liver foods, see Body Systems under the Liver

Herb Quality:

A large proportion of our herbs are grown in English soils, harvested using bio-chemistry analysis and many but not always, processed fresh, which heightens their remedial properties. The majority are grown organically and or sustainably wild-crafted. All manufacturing is carried out using licensed good manufacturing practice.

DO NOT MIX HERBAL MEDICINE AND GP PRESCRIBED MEDICATION WITHOUT THE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR GP OR PRACTIONER

Natural Healing:

Castor oil packs over the liver will help. The castor oil pack may need baking soda to help to remove it in the morning.

Be aware that the pack may become stained and dirty with the toxins drawn out by the castor oil. (Sometimes, though not always, the toxins go 'in' and are taken away via the lymph system). Therefore wash or replace the pack nightly.
