Introduction

This is a highly infectious viral infection, which, if you are lucky, can be very mild. It is historically common in childhood. Starting with a sore throat and swollen lymph glands, often accompanied by a reddening of the eyelids, rubella will graduate into a reddish rash of small pink spots starting on the face and spreading down over the body.

The itching is difficult for about three days (1-5 day) but, after this, things generally improve.

Children with German measles should be kept away from pregnant women. Incubation period is 14 days to 23 days before the advent of symptoms.
