Gastric Ulcer

Introduction:

These are caused by a loss of gastric lining which leads to a 'burning' sensation. The mucous membranes of the gastric mucosa are marked by inflammation, sloughing of damaged tissue, irritation and even slight bleeding. Very often chronic stress and indigestion precedes this painful condition while other triggers such as alcohol, smoking and an acidic diet should be considered. Herpes simplex or Helicobacter pylori can also be commonly causative and these will cause infection.

Nutritional Advice:

Start each morning with a glass of spring water and fresh lemon juice - this eradicates excess hydrochloric acid and removes any lingering food from the night before. It can also encourage the correct production of hydrochloric acid.

Foods should be easily digestible, non-fatty, no cooked spices, and no nuts or highly fibrous food. Avoid coffee, tea and alcohol. 'Cool' spices like cumin, fennel, caraway, basil and coriander will help.

Eat apple puree, rice, pureed vegetable and all wholesome home-made foods, while the healing process is taking place.

Eat pineapples and papayas for extra digestive help, but mix into aloe vera juice to prevent any harm to stomach walls.

Take 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar daily in half a cup (or more) of apple juice to alkalise the gut.

Food intake should be slow, unhurried and calm. Chewing should be thorough and slow, and initially eating and no talking can be helpful.

Include culinary herbs to aid digestion; fennel, gentian, caraway, mint and basil etc. Turmeric, ginger and cinnamon will be especially soothing and repairing to the gut wall.

Include arrowroot in cooking to further cool and heal stomach. It makes a healing alternative to wheat flour.

Herb Quality:

A large proportion of our herbs are grown in English soils, harvested using bio-chemistry analysis and many but not always, processed fresh, which heightens their remedial properties. The majority are grown organically and or sustainably wild-crafted. All manufacturing is carried out using licensed good manufacturing practice.

DO NOT MIX HERBAL MEDICINE AND GP PRESCRIBED MEDICATION WITHOUT THE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR GP OR PRACTIONER
