Arthritis

Introduction:

There are many types of arthritis and rheumatism each will require an individual programme tailored exactly to the condition. It may result from infections, metabolic disturbances, multi-system autoimmune diseases, neuropathies, endocrine diseases and other illness to include osteoarthritis and rheumatism.

  • Arthritis, which affects 7 million people in Britain is caused by excess acid in the system.

  • Osteoarthritis can be due to 'wear and tear' on particular areas or joints, caused by repetitive strain or trauma. Or it can be due to a lack of magnesium and calcium.

  • Rheumatoid arthritis is systemic and is an auto-immune disease.

  • The main symptoms are varying degrees of pain, inflammation, swelling and stiffness of the joints.

Here are some general tips:

Nutritional Advice:

Cut out dairy products, red meats, salt and sugar.

Avoid foods from the Solinaceae family e.g. potatoes, peppers, aubergines as they interfere with muscle enzymes.

Avoid oxalic acid-rich foods which include; tea, coffee, wine, spinach, rhubarb, tomatoes, gooseberries, oranges, strawberries, black and red currants. Eventually, some of these can be re-included without incurring pain and inflammation.

Consume Superfood. Add pineapple juice to it as it will help reduce inflammation.

Take garlic and generous amounts of apple cider vinegar on a daily basis.

Drink plenty of water in order to ensure 'well gliding' joint surfaces.

Natural Healing:

If overweight understand that weight loss will relieve joint strain.

Gentle exercise is vitally important, but build up slowly; and never overdo it.

To promote healing take hot and cold showers to relieve stiffness.

Try St. John's wort macerated oil. Massage it into the affected area and then apply a bag of frozen peas or chiropractic cold bag to the area.

Use a warming oil like Deep Muscle Repair oil to relieve stiff cold areas. However, avoid using this 'heating oil' if the area is highly inflamed and use instead St John's Wort macerated oil.

Use 1 cup of Epsom salts, 2 cups of apple cider vinegar and lavender tied in a muslin bag in the bath.

Use hot castor oil packs on the area overnight.
